Worldwide, smartphone users make rapid decisions when it comes to downloading or uninstalling applications, with retention duration heavily dependent on user preferences and app popularity.
TRG Data Centers recently conducted an analysis of smartphone users' app uninstallation habits, revealing unexpected findings. The report provides insights into user behavior regarding the installation and removal of mobile applications.
As per the report, there are 4.8 billion social media users globally, constituting 59.9% of the world's population and 92.7% of all internet users. Social media users engage with an average of 6.7 different networks each month, dedicating approximately 2 hours and 24 minutes daily to these platforms.
The report highlights Instagram as the social media platform most users are prone to uninstall. In 2023, over 1 million individuals globally actively searched for 'how to delete my Instagram account' each month, amounting to more than 12,500 searches per 100,000 people worldwide.
The continuous influx of curated content and algorithmic feeds has led to burnout. Despite this, Instagram, originally a digital scrapbook, maintains its prominent position in the social media landscape with 2.4 billion active users worldwide. However, the report suggests that if a million people continue seeking deletion monthly, Instagram's dominant status may face transformation within a year.
Snapchat, launched in 2011, follows Instagram in user inclination for removal. Approximately 130,000 people per month sought to delete their Snapchat accounts in the current year. Though less than Instagram, this still represents a significant portion of Snapchat's 750 million users.
