As per a report from 9to5Google, Google is working on two different sizes for the upcoming Pixel Watch 3 in an effort to address design issues raised by users of the first two generations.
The Pixel Watch 2, which was introduced in October last year, featured upgraded specifications but maintained the same design, boasting a 41mm diameter and 12.3mm thickness.
While the specific dimensions are not yet known, the larger variant is expected to surpass the 41mm size of the Pixel Watch 2. A larger case could accommodate a 1.3″ or even larger display, enhancing battery life and potentially incorporating new health sensors. In contrast, Samsung offers the Galaxy Watch 6 in 40mm and 44mm sizes, while the Apple Watch Series 9 is offered in 41mm or 45mm.
The report indicates that if Google releases multiple sizes of the Pixel Watch 3, the larger model might not be compatible with existing bands, likely utilizing 22mm bands instead of the current 20mm bands on the Pixel Watch 2.
Given the lack of information regarding a new Qualcomm wearable chipset for the Wear OS platform, it is probable that the Pixel Watch 3 will continue using the existing Snapdragon W5 chipset.
Google may also address concerns about thick bezels observed in previous generations of the smartwatch. The smartwatch is expected to make its debut in early October alongside the Pixel 9 series, with more details anticipated closer to the launch.
