If 2023 was characterized as the year of exceptionally bright TVs, 2024 seems poised to witness a surge in the integration of AI features into them like never before. During CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Samsung provided insights into its highly anticipated Neo QLED and OLED TV lineup for the year.
While details on pricing and availability are pending, it is evident that Samsung is intensifying its reliance on AI to enhance visual quality, refine audio clarity, and personalize content experiences.
Samsung Neo QLED 8K Lineup
Despite the limited availability of content for 8K TVs, Samsung is advancing the technology with its Neo QLED mini-LEDs. The 8K lineup, featuring the QN800D and QN900D models, offers screen sizes ranging from 65 to 85 inches.
Although specific details are scarce, Samsung emphasizes improved sound quality and a sleek design, dubbing the QN900D Neo QLED as the slimmest 8K TV ever released. Both QLED 8K models incorporate the NQA AI Gen3 processor, boasting a twofold increase in speed compared to its predecessor and an eightfold augmentation in neural networks.
The QN900D introduces AI Upscaling Pro for enhancing SD and HD content to 4K resolution, as well as upscaling 4K content to 8K. The AI Motion Enhancer Pro aims to deliver clearer and smoother visuals for gaming, sports, and fast-paced action movies.
Noteworthy advancements include the Real Depth Enhancer Pro, which focuses on the clarity and contrast of on-screen objects while preserving background details. Gamers will appreciate the QN900D's support for 240Hz VRR (variable refresh rate), ensuring smoother and faster gaming without compromising resolution.
A redesigned U-shaped layout characterizes the updated Samsung One Connect Box, offering a more compact design. Additional features include the "Infinity Air Stand" and the Now+ feature, allowing the TV to function as an information hub when turned off.
Samsung Neo QLED 4K Lineup
In the realm of 4K, Samsung introduces two contenders in its Neo QLED lineup: the Neo QLED QN90D and the QN85D. The former, a 2024 version of the previous QN90C, now comes in an expansive 98-inch size.
The QN85D maintains its size lineup, ranging from 55 to 85 inches. While detailed specifications are yet to be disclosed, both Neo QLED 4K mini-LED TVs feature an upgraded Neural Quantum Processor, 4K upscaling, and the enhanced Real Depth Enhancer Pro feature.
Samsung OLED Lineup
Renowned for their quantum-dot OLEDs, Samsung's S95D and S90D models mark the 2024 OLED lineup. Notable is the introduction of Glare-Free technology in the S95D, a first for OLEDs.
Samsung claims this technology enhances anti-glare properties, making it suitable for both low-light and bright environments without compromising viewing angles, contrast, or colors.
The S95D maintains its slim, 11-mm, flat-back profile, supporting 144Hz VRR for gamers and offering an optional One Connect Box. Samsung also emphasizes improvements to the built-in speaker distribution, promising "True Channel Dolby Atmos" for a more cinematic surround sound experience.
Active Voice Amplifier Pro and Other TV Features
Acknowledging the common complaint of difficulty hearing dialogue in home entertainment, Samsung introduces features like Active Voice Amplifier Pro in its 2024 TVs, available across Neo QLED 4K, Neo QLED 8K, and OLED models. This feature enhances dialogue and sound effects for improved clarity.
Samsung also introduces the Audio Subtitles feature, claiming it as the world's first on-device TV service that reads subtitles aloud in real-time. Particularly beneficial for the visually impaired, this system utilizes a Samsung-created module and text-to-speech software to identify on-screen text with over 95% accuracy. Currently supporting Korean and English, the feature allows customization of speed and volume.
