Apple typically exercises caution when it comes to overhauling design elements and the overall user interface of the iPhone's operating system. However, according to Mark Gurman's latest "Power On" newsletter, the upcoming iteration, iOS 18, is poised to introduce significant design changes compared to previous versions.
While iOS 18 is anticipated to introduce new features, the focus this time appears to be on substantial design updates. Gurman notes that these changes won't mirror the vision OS redesign, as features like glass textures and 3D buttons will remain exclusive to visionOS, which requires the screen to be transparent via the passthrough video feature.
In his newsletter, Gurman indicates that iOS 18 will indeed receive design updates, although he does not specify the exact nature of these changes. However, he suggests that Apple might draw inspiration from Vision OS and incorporate similar design elements into iOS 18.
In addition to the iOS 18 redesign, macOS is also expected to undergo some design alterations. The unveiling of the next iteration of operating systems is expected to take place at the WWDC 24 event, typically held in June. At this event, Apple is likely to announce iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, tvOS 18, watchOS 11, and more.
