Google has officially rebranded its Bard AI chatbot as Gemini, aligning with the powerful Large Language Model it is built upon. Additionally, Google now offers a dedicated app for Gemini, available on both iOS and Android platforms.
Moreover, a new advanced version of the chatbot, dubbed Gemini Advanced, has been introduced, featuring Google’s latest Ultra 1.0 LLM. This version replaces the PaLM 2 LLM as Google's most advanced AI model yet.
Rumors of this change surfaced last week following the leak of a Bard changelog by developer Dylan Russel on X, indicating a potential name change. The changelog explicitly stated, “Bard is now Gemini."
Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized that Gemini Advanced, slated to be a paid experience, excels in reasoning, following instructions, coding, and creative collaboration.
He further elaborated: “You can start using Gemini Advanced by subscribing to the new Google One AI Premium plan, offering the best of Google’s AI features in one place. This premium plan expands on the popular Google One service, providing increased storage and exclusive product features."
Notably, the initial two months of Gemini Advanced via the Google One AI Premium plan are complimentary. Subsequently, users can continue the subscription by paying Rs 1,950, unlocking benefits such as 2TB of cloud storage, seamless integration of Gemini across Gmail, Docs, and other workspace applications, among other features.
