On Wednesday at Al Thumama Stadium, hosts and defending champions Qatar secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Iran in the Asian Cup semi-final. Striker Almoez Ali sealed the win with a decisive goal, setting up a title clash against Jordan.
Iran took an early lead through Sardar Azmoun's spectacular overhead kick in the fourth minute. Qatar equalized when Jassem Gaber's long-range shot deflected and looped over goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand.
Qatar gained the advantage just before halftime as Akram Afif scored a stunning goal after weaving through the defense. However, Iran leveled the score with Alireza Jahanbakhsh converting a penalty for handball.
In the dying moments, Almoez Ali, the tournament's top scorer in 2019, secured the victory for Qatar with a precise shot into the bottom corner. Iran's chances dwindled further as Shojae Khalilzadeh received a late red card.
Qatar aims to claim their second title in the final against first-time finalists Jordan on Saturday.
