Virat Kohli, who had been absent from the ongoing Test series against England due to personal reasons, has disclosed that his wife Anushka Sharma has given birth to their second child. Kohli shared on Instagram that their son, named Akaay, was born on February 15.
Ahead of the first Test against England, Kohli had been in Hyderabad but departed to be with his family, leading to his unavailability for the entire series. Initially, he had planned to miss only the first two matches. India, currently leading the five-match series 2-1, finalized their squad for the remaining three Tests just over a week ago.
During the birth of their first child, Kohli had opted out of the last three Tests during India's tour of Australia in 2020-21. As Kohli was the captain at the time, Ajinkya Rahane had assumed leadership for those matches.
Kohli's most recent appearance for India was in mid-January when he returned to the T20 squad for a series against Afghanistan in preparation for the upcoming World Cup scheduled for June 1.
On Tuesday, India also announced that Jasprit Bumrah would be rested for the fourth Test against England, and KL Rahul, who had initially filled in for Kohli at the No. 4 position in the batting order, is still working on regaining full fitness.
