Newcastle United staged a comeback from a two-goal deficit in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Luton Town at St James' Park on Saturday. Despite being 2-0 down, Newcastle's Sean Longstaff scored twice in the first half, ending it with a 2-2 score. Luton then took a 4-2 lead with a Carlton Morris penalty in the 59th minute and an Elijah Adebayo strike.
In a remarkable turn of events in the northeast, Kieran Trippier and substitute Harvey Barnes scored, bringing the score to 4-4 in the 73rd minute, denying Luton a double victory over Newcastle in the league this season.
The scoring sequence began with Longstaff's seventh-minute right-footed shot, but Luton quickly equalized in the 21st minute with a close-range Gabriel Osho header. Longstaff regained the lead for Newcastle two minutes later, only for Ross Barkley to level the score at 2-2 with his first away Premier League goal in three years.
Luton, who had previously defeated Newcastle 1-0 in December, had dropped into the bottom three before the match. However, following Everton's 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, Luton ended the day in 16th place, one point clear of the relegation zone.
