A smartphone with no apps concepts unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2024

The annual Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona serves as a platform to showcase the latest innovations in connected devices, and the 2024 edition was no exception, featuring several intriguing concepts poised to shape future consumer products.

Among the notable innovations unveiled at the event were smartphones designed to wrap around the wrist. Both Motorola and Samsung showcased prototypes of such devices, allowing attendees to witness firsthand the futuristic concept of wearing a smartphone like a bracelet.

Motorola's wrap-around smartphone, initially revealed at the Lenovo World Tech event in the USA, boasts a flexible screen that can curve around the wrist and attach magnetically to a metal bracelet.

Similarly, Samsung presented a smartphone with a bendable screen that wraps around the wrist. While these concepts are visually impressive, they are not yet slated for commercial release.

Another standout innovation showcased at the Mobile World Congress was a smartphone devoid of traditional applications. Developed by Deutsche Telekom in collaboration with American start-up Brain.ai, this unique prototype features only an AI-powered personal assistant capable of handling various practical tasks, such as organizing vacations or making restaurant reservations. However, it may be challenging for users accustomed to accessing social networks and other applications to embrace this minimalist approach.

In addition to smartphones, the event also featured innovative PC designs, with Lenovo unveiling a transparent PC boasting a borderless MicroLED screen. This forward-thinking prototype, equipped with a panel that serves as a virtual keyboard or touch screen, offers a glimpse into the future of computing but is not intended for commercial production.

Samsung also made waves with the introduction of the Galaxy Ring, a smart ring equipped with sensors to track the wearer's fitness or sleep data in real-time. While details about its functionalities remain scarce, Samsung plans to release the product by the end of the year, joining other tech giants in exploring the potential of wearable smart rings.
