OpenAI has rolled out an innovative Read Aloud feature for ChatGPT, enabling the chatbot to audibly deliver responses in five distinct voices. The announcement was made on X, formerly Twitter, with OpenAI stating, "ChatGPT can now read responses to you."
This enhancement builds upon ChatGPT's previous voice chat feature launched in September 2023, which allowed users to interact with the chatbot through spoken prompts. The Read Aloud feature represents a significant advancement, empowering users to have written responses read aloud.
Accessible through the web version and iOS/Android apps, the Read Aloud feature supports 37 languages and can automatically detect the conversation's language. Users also have the option to configure ChatGPT to respond verbally. Notably, the feature is compatible with both GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 models.
Here's how to utilize the Read Aloud feature
- Open ChatGPT on your web browser, Android device, or iOS device.
- Input a text prompt in your desired language.
- Allow ChatGPT to generate a response.
- Tap and hold on the response, then select "Read Aloud."
- A Read Aloud player will appear, offering controls to play, pause, fast forward, or rewind the verbal response from ChatGPT.
For mobile users, tapping and holding the text provides access to the Read Aloud player. On the web version, a speaker icon below the text signifies the Read Aloud feature. Simply clicking on this icon enables users to listen to the response.
This feature is particularly beneficial for users on the go who prefer listening to responses rather than reading them.
