WhatsApp has introduced the "search by date" feature for personal and group chats on Android devices, expanding its existing availability on iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web.
This functionality enables users to locate a specific message, photo, or video sent on a particular date. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's co-founder and CEO, shared the news on his WhatsApp channel, praising the feature in a video where he searched for an old chat about Karaoke.
It's worth noting that users can only search for a chat on a specific date rather than defining a date range. This feature simplifies chat navigation, allowing users to revisit messages that brought joy or verify when they shared information with someone.
To utilize the search messages by date feature on Android
- Access a personal or group chat by tapping on the contact or group name.
- Tap the "Search" icon, where a "calendar" icon will be visible.
- Select the calendar icon and pick a date to view messages sent on that specific day.
WhatsApp advises users not to overlook the ability to search for media, links, and documents within their chats. Additionally, for finding a specific photo in a group, users can navigate to any chat, tap the contact or group name, and click on 'Media Links and Docs' to toggle between the three.
